Il Castello

Property Description :

Garfagnana – media valle del serchio is an area of northwestern tuscany, located in the province of lucca. In this marvellous setting we have recently restored and refurbished a little group of farmhouses, which have been property of our family since more than 150 years, preserving their ancient structure characterized by exposed beams, original terracotta tiles pavements and typical tuscan rural furniture. Our houses enjoy a wonderful position on a sunny hill at 450 m. Asl, surrounded by chestnuts and thorntrees, in a quite secluded place at the edges of a nice old hamlet. we called it il castello (the castle), because of its peculiar long narrow structure. It is said that it was an ail of the adiacent building, which was, according to old recollections, a nunnery. Nowadays, it is a little nice appartment about 40 sm. For 2, max 3 people. It has three levels, all of them communicating, that is with no doors (except the bathroom with shower which is a room itself and has a door!) and linked by a steep wood stair. All rooms have exposed beams and terracotta tiles pavements. On the ground floor, a living room with fireplace and a kitchenette. On the first floor a bath with shower and a room with a single bed. On the second floor a double bed room. Outside a little private yard for your sunny afternoons with garden furniture. And if it is not enough you have at your disposal a spacious garden (1000 sm.), 20mts away from the cottage. il castello is located in a nice quite secluded place at the edges of an old hamlet. A narrow road drivable with small cars crosses it. Cars are preferably to be parked on the public square of the hamlet (150 meters distance from our house). Our hamlet offers neither groceries nor bars, but a couple of them can be found in the hamlets nearby (about 2kms).

Pietro in corsena, pieve and san cassiano di controne, montefegatesi, casabasciana and vicopancellorum. Nearby, borgo a mozzano and the maddalena bridge, better known as the devil’s bridge, barga with its typical historical centre, coreglia antelminelli and its museum of plaster figures and emigration. Lucca (about 27 kms.), pisa (about 55kms.) and the close tyrrhenian coast, (or versilia about 40kms.) offer further cultural artistic and eno-gastronomical diversions.
